Meet Jill Cheran
VP of Scouting @ TalentScout

Jill has a stellar 20 year career in retail leadership and merchandising innovation with some of the nation’s largest brands.

Always demonstrating a panache for style and design, she graduated from the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York, with a major in Fashion Buying and Merchandising. Jill quickly gained valuable professional manufacturing, merchandising, sales and buying experience in New York for industry leaders like Eileen West, Pasargada and Lauren Hansen.

Several years later, when they were experiencing their explosive growth, The Limited Stores came calling and infused her into their management development program were her career with them took off from Atlanta as a Retail Store Manager. Her development there proved to be beneficial for her and the company as she was recognized 10 times in the first 18 months with the “Top Notch Ten” Sales Award, which was given to recognize the Top 10 grossing sales leaders nationwide.

When The Limited Corporate offices called her to the Columbus headquarters, Jill was positioned in the Buying and Merchandising Department where she quickly distinguished herself and received the highly coveted “Force the Action” award, which was presented by The Limited Founder/Owner, CEO Les Wexner. The highly coveted recognition was given quarterly to only three Limited Associates from the entire corporate office that made a substantial impact on the business - financially or operationally. Jill also was an innovator on the buying side of the business by developing the first “Wear Test Program” at The Limited Stores, which was designed to assure salability of new merchandise through design, test marketing and quality assurance in full production for national retail rollout.

Jill came to Pittsburgh when she and her husband and now business partner, Roy, got married. She supervised the design and construction of their first home and focused on raising their three beautiful children and volunteering in the community for Make-a-Wish and Easter Seals. She found another passion and was driven to raise money for and spread the word about the great work both organizations do in our community.

Once their youngest child began second grade, it was time to apply her talents and experience to a brand new opportunity with our region’s largest retailer – Giant Eagle.

In 2006, Giant Eagle launched a new retail brand, Market District, and tapped Jill’s visual merchandising and management skills to set the tone for the “atmospherics” of the new stores. Her responsibilities included cultivating and directing a team of over forty-five graphic artists and visual merchandisers, developing visual brand standards and creative execution at retail.

When she left Giant Eagle to join TalentScout in Q4 of 2016, she was responsible for overall brand atmospherics across 15 stores representing over 1.6 million square feet of retail space that integrated with Market District's merchandising strategies.

Jill also led the cross merchandising strategy responsible for driving individual product and departmental sales revenue for each line of business.

During her run with Market District, Jill was recognized for her accomplishments in development of the retail brand and also received The President’s Award and The Frieda Shapira Humanitarian Award – one of two in the entire organization who are identified for their service to others.

Jill’s background in team building and training, merchandise and display prototyping, special event management, strategic planning, brand building and financial oversight coupled with her innate design, merchandising and sales instincts have made her gifted talent recruiter with strong organizational abilities.
